Let’s Just Pretend A Disaster Will Strike on December 21st – What Should You Stock Up On?
If a national disaster debilitated our infrastructure, many of the items below would become impossible to acquire. That's why it's important to have the necessary quantities before it's too late.
Water
Homeland Security recommends one gallon of water per person per day. A family of four would require 28 gallons of water for 7 days.
Food
Choose food you like and food that will last without refrigeration. Canned foods with high liquid content are important because they will provide you with the hydration your body needs. Even canned food can spoil so always check your tasty grub before devouring it. Also, avoid foods that will make you thirsty. I would also recommend stocking up on Chocolate, nuts, vitamins, peanut butter, canned juice and milk.
Beer/Alcohol
Once the TV and internet are no longer functionable, enjoying merriment with friends and family will be the next big thing. And everyone will be wishing they had a bigger supply of drinks! Even if you don't drink it you could easily barter with it.
Radio
Have a battery powered radio and NOAA Weather Radio ready with batteries
Flashlight
Have a flashlight for each person ready with batteries
Extra Batteries
Batteries will become one of the most sought after commodities once electricity is out for more than a couple of days. You could be rich with electricity!
First Aid Kit
Have a kit that includes antisyptic, bandage materials and any special medical supplies and medication you will need in the following weeks
Whistle
To communicate long distances or signal for help
Sanitation
Moist towelettes, extra tooth brushes and tooth paste, soap, feminine supplies, disinfectant, bleach, and plastic bags for disposal of waste
Dust Mask
Make a dust mask out of cotton clothing or buy one from the store
Plastic and Duct Tape
To secure your shelter place or mend any faults
Tools
Wrenches and pliers to turn off utilities or to work on mechanics. Lighters and matches. Kindling and wood.
Weapons
In case you need to hunt or even if you need to protect your family and friends.
Can Opener
So you can open your canned food!
Clothes
Montana gets cold so be sure to have at least one dry pair of clothing including jacket, shoes, pants, long sleeve shirt, hat, and gloves. Basically your entire ski outfit.
Books
Survival books, cook books, and enjoyable books
Bedding
Warm blankets and sleeping bags. At least one per person
