Charlie needs your help. He's battling Type 1 Diabetes, and has been for many years. I can't imagine having to face something like this, especially at this time of year. Please help Charlie however you can. If you can't afford to donate, how about sharing this post. It won't cost you a thing but you'll still be helping Charlie by sharing is story.

Who is Charlie?

Charlie is a 19 year old young man who has been sick for over 8 years. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June of 2006. Diagnosed with a unknown subset of Common Variable Immune Deficiency. Platelet Disorder. Weight loss. Broken Immune System He needs a bone marrow transplant and we have finally got the OK for this in the Spring.

Short story of Charlie's illnesses:

He began having horrible stomach pains and his blood glucose could not be controlled about a year after being diagnosed with diabetes. He began losing weight. He missed 90% of the 8th grade, and progressively got worse, and he couldn't finish high school because he had missed so much. As his Mom and the only parent to care for him, I began doing research. Having been a nurse, I could read the medical jargon. But no matter what I looked for, I could not find out what was wrong. The medical professionals in our small town had no clue.

His  immune system is broken. It attacks his body. In 2008 he had 104 separate visits to the hospital. He gets infusions at the local cancer center to try to boost his immune system. He goes weekly. Without these, he will die. Sometimes chemo is required to try to kill the cells attacking him. His insurance wouldn’t pay for it. But without it he would die. The hospital sued me for unpaid chemo treatments.

What Charlie needs:

He is now going to have a bone marrow transplant, as no matter what we do, his immune system is winning the battle. We desperately need to get to Seattle, so he can get the care he needs. They want to do his transplant in the Spring after flu season. But he’s not going to make it until then.

We need help moving there. I have no credit, due to my sons illness (and my youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer 6 months after Charlie got sick). Bills are piling up. He needs to be admitted to the hospital ASAP, but we don’t have the funds to get to Seattle. We are very proud, and it is hard to ask. But it’s not about pride now. It’s about life. A life too young to have gone through so much. HE needs the transplant ASAP.

Please help in giving Charlie a Chance to live. Bless you all.
