Jason Aldean Not Interested in Judging Reality Singing Competitions

Jason Aldean has taken the country music world by storm in the past few years, shooting out of the ranks of wannabe country stars and into sold-out arena tours. The ‘My Kinda Party’ singer may perform to 20,000 people on any given night, and his songs have been climbing the charts like kids on a playground. Even so, the laid-back country hitmaker says he’s not about to go around giving other hopefuls advice — especially not on a reality TV show.

“I’m not really into being the judge thing. I’m kinda focused on my own career and all that stuff,” Aldean told Albright & O’Malley producer Dan Van in a recent interview. “I never claimed to be the best singer in the world or any of that stuff. I’m not going to try to act like I know everything there is to know about it and try to give people advice. That’s just not my style.”

While musical reality shows like ‘American Idol,’ ‘The Voice‘ and ‘The Sing Off’ afford esteemed musicians a chance to judge or coach young musicians on their way to the top, Aldean remains rather disenchanted with the whole idea, even if he could be called a coach or a mentor, rather than a judge.

“Maybe, I wouldn’t mind giving advice on things that I could actually give them good advice on,” he says, but then adds, “There’s certain people on those shows that don’t need any mentoring. They don’t need any advice on how to sing. Some of those guys on the show sing better than the people who are judging the show.”

Though he says he understands why other big-name artists, like his country peer Blake Shelton, take that route — “It’s TV, I get that,” he says — he doesn’t seem like he’ll be changing his mind anytime soon on the matter. “I don’t feel comfortable going out telling somebody what they’re doing wrong or acting like I know it when I’m still trying to figure it out myself.”
