‘It’s a Wonderful Life 2′ Is in the Works Because We Need ‘The Rest of the Story’

It's a Wonderful Life
RKO Radio Pictures

Seems there is no moratorium on sequels as, just in time for the holidays, comes news that the Jimmy Stewart classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is getting a sequel. Nope, not a remake, but a sequel, since apparently we didn’t get the full story the first time around. The new film, titled ‘It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story’ (original!) will follow the grandson of Stewart’s character.

Looks like Hollywood doesn’t think we learned our lesson with ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ the first time around. According to Variety, we’re getting a sequel to really drive the point home that you only have one life to live and that it’s totally worth living. Or, in this case, you have a grandson who also gets to learn the exact same lesson because apparently your family suffers from some sort of weird mental illness that makes them hallucinate and see angels, who guide them on narcissistic ‘Christmas Carol’ adventures wherein they see what life is like without them in it.

It’s like ‘About Time’ meets ‘A Christmas Carol,’ and this time, Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter in the original film, will play the angel who guides Bailey’s miserable grandson on a journey to see how wonderful life is without him — you know, to make him change his ways. Grimes, if you’ll recall, recited the memorable line, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!”

“The new film will retain the feeling of the original, and it simply must be shared,” said Grimes. “I’ve probably read close to 20 scripts over the years suggesting a sequel to ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ but none of them were any good. The script by Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton was wonderful, and I wanted to be involved with his version of the film immediately.”

The sequel is eyeing a 2015 holiday release.
