Did you remember to wear green today? St. Patrick's Day is truly a unique holiday, and certainly celebrated heartily in these parts. Thousands of Montanans lined the streets of Butte today to enjoy the annual St. Patrick's Day parade despite bad weather.

We learned today on the morning show that blue not green is the actual color of St. Patrick, but green became associated with the holiday in the 19th century. It seems that green in Irish legends is worn by immortals, and also by people to encourage their crops to grow. Green is also one of the colors in the Irish flag.

In addition to the parade in Butte, New York City, Boston, and Chicago all host St. Patrick's Day parades. Chicago even turns the river that runs through downtown green. Watch the video above to see how they do it!

Have fun tonight enjoying St. Patrick's Day! Oh, and please celebrate responsibly.
