The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office has issued a notice stating 911 pocket dials are clogging up the dispatch center. This is an issue because it takes the public service personnel away from actual emergency calls.

The sheriff's office has experienced a large increase of misdials this winter. In December alone they had 248 misdials and January is pacing to be higher than December.

A majority of the calls happen when people are on the ski slopes when people are wearing bulky clothing and bump the emergency call feature on their phone or smart watches.

If you do accidentally dial 911, be sure to stay on the phone to let the dispatchers and law enforcement know you do not have an emergency.
