If you are a veteran, thank you for your service! I hope you feel appreciated, not just today but everyday, for your sacrifice to our country. We cannot thank you enough.

My dad was a U.S. Marine who served in WWII. He was proud of his country, but I'm not sure if he was proud of his service. Not because he did anything shameful or was against the war effort. It was that he felt he was doing what he was supposed to do: serve and protect when our nation needed it. What's the line in the Toby Keith song "American Soldier:" "I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway." That's exactly why my dad did it and why most of the men of his era became soldiers.

I wish my dad were still here so I could tell him, "thank you." If you see a serviceman or woman today, please honor them by letting them know you appreciate them for their service. I'm sure they will appreciate it and so will their families, who are very proud of them and deservedly so.
