This annual event is just around the corner and we are hoping to go bigger and better than ever.

This year marks the 24th year that we will participate in the annual event, Can the Griz. A friendly competition between Montana State University and University of Montana where we try and beat the other team in amount of food raised for our local food bank.

There are numerous ways to donate to the competition:

  • Dropped off at a collection location. LIST OF COLLECTION SITES HERE
  • Starting November 4th, you can drop donations off directly to the GALLATIN VALLEY FOOD BANK602 Bond St. from 8 a.m. to noon Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays
  • Nonperishable donations can be dropped off at most local grocery stores. There will be donation bins located near the front of each store. Garden produce can be dropped off at the Gallatin Valley Food Bank
  • Monetary donations can be sent by going to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank Official Website. Each dollar counts as one pound of food. Bobcat supporters can add their contributions to MSU’s total by telling the food bank their donation is for Can the Griz
  • Large donation drop offs will have to be scheduled. You can easily do that by emailing: Jon @ jhorn@thehrdc.org.

Last year, MSU supporters donated the equivalent of 613,054 pounds of food to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank for the community while Missoula brought in the equivalent of 428,022 pounds of food for the Missoula Food Bank. Out of the last 23 years of this event, Montana State University, along with all the giving people in Bozeman, have taken home a win 19 times. That's a pretty good record to keep going.

A huge thank you to our friends at Town and Country Foods for always having donation sites at their stores that are easy to find and easy to fill up.

Can the Griz is coordinated by the MSU Office of Student Engagement and the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. Community members interested in more details on how to participate or volunteer can visit the Can the Griz website.
