Food stamps are not allowed to be used in restaurants, other than in a few states, but some fast food chains want that rule changed.

Yum! Brands, which owns Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's and Pizza Hut, is lobbying the government to allow food stamps to be used at its fast-food outlets, at a time when food stamp benefits have more than doubled between 2005 and 2010.

Some 45 million Americans now get food stamps.

Anti-hunger advocates are supportive of the idea, citing those like the homeless or elderly who can't cook, while anti-obesity advocates are strongly opposed.
