Yesterday (March 13) Dierks Bentley made an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ to perform a song he contributed to the Bob Dylan tribute album, ‘Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. The curly-haired singer offered up his version of Dylan’s ‘Señor (Tales of Yankee Power)’ with progressive bluegrass band the Punch Brothers.

With the bluegrass sound of a mandolin, fiddle, banjo, guitar and upright bass, the guys sped the song up a good deal and gave it a pleasant twang that sounded more like a cowboy song than Dylan’s original. It fit perfectly into the folksy, Americana genre that’s infiltrating the music scene of late with bands like the Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons.

The four-CD, 75-song tribute album, which released January 24, also featured a cover by Sugarland, who put their own spin on Dylan’s ‘Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You.’ The record release timed perfectly with the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International, the human rights organization that works to free political prisoners all over the world.

This isn’t Bentley’s first time on ‘Ellen,’ as the star just a month ago went on the show to present a military family with a $50,000 check to help them support their family and pay their bills. Who doesn’t love a country man with a big heart?
