Dancing With The Stars Elimination

Did you watch this week’s season premier of Dancing with the Stars??  I did!

The first elimination of the season isn’t exactly heart wrenching, but it’s interesting to see who ends up in the infamous Losers’ Club of contestants eliminated after only one dance. This time around it was NBA star Ron Artest, also known as Metta World Peace. This particular elimination wasn’t too surprising since Ron and Peta kicked off the season with a cha-cha the judges called “lacking in cha-cha content” and ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard.

After the announcement Ron was all smiles. He said, “Peta was great,” and called for a round of applause on his partner’s behalf. Then he thanked the show’s producers and pulled Peta out onto the floor for a last dance.

Here’s how the rest of our stars did this week:

Ricki Lake

Ricki and Derek kicked off their season with a truly memorable Viennese waltz. She danced extremely well — her lines were long and smooth, her musicality was great, and she was unfailingly elegant. Ricki may not have topped the leaderboard this week, but I’m expecting great things based on her debut.

Elisabetta Canalis

Elisabetta and Val started off their cha-cha in bed, predictably angering Len. Was the controversy worth it? Elisabetta had some timing issues and flubbed her solo, so the gimmicks weren’t the only things the judges had to criticize. Let’s hope Elisabetta makes a good second impression.

Hope Solo

Hope and Maks started the season off with a flowery Viennese waltz that landed them just one point away from the top of the leaderboard. She had a little trouble with her spins, but her lines were great. Len was a fan of Hope’s posture and movement but said she needs to be a little more feminine in her movements. Not too bad for her first week out!

Kristin Cavallari

The “Laguna Beach” star and her partner Mark danced a flirty, fresh cha-cha. Kristin has a great sense of rhythm, and her footwork was excellent. Carrie Ann said that Kristin sparkled, and she wasn’t wrong!

Chynna Phillips

Chynna and Tony turned in a moving, elegant Viennese waltz that landed them at the top of the judges’ leaderboard. Len said that “it wasn’t the best first dance I’ve ever seen, but it was close.” Chynna just might be the one to beat!

J.R. Martinez

J.R. and Karina turned in a gorgeous Viennese waltz that landed them at the top of the leaderboard with Chynna and Tony. J.R. has great musicality, and his posture was very good. It seems like the sky’s the limit for him.

Chaz Bono

Chaz and Lacey danced a sweet, lighthearted cha-cha. Chaz’s footwork wasn’t bad at all — especially considering that he hurt his knee in practice — but his performance needs a little fine tuning. Chaz is off to a more than solid start this season.

David Arquette

David and Kym made a striking debut with a Viennese waltz. David’s footwork was pretty good for a first performance, but his knees were a little weak. The judges were uniformly impressed with David’s dedication, so he’s off to a good start.

Carson Kressley

Carson and Anna made their debut with a disco-y, fun, but also frazzled cha-cha. There’s something to be said for making a splash the first night out, but Carson will definitely need to focus on technique next week if he expects the judges to take him seriously as a performer.

Rob Kardashian

Rob and Cheryl’s Viennese waltz wasn’t all smooth sailing: He was stiff-kneed and a bit off rhythm, not to mention quite nervous. Carrie Ann did say that she sees potential, so maybe Rob will surprise us in the next round.

Nancy Grace

Nancy and spanking new pro Tristan MacManus danced a playful cha-cha in the first round. Nancy’s stage presence wasn’t bad, but her rhythm was off and her footwork was choppy. The judges were underwhelmed, so unless Nancy has some tricks up her sleeve she could be the next to go.
