Following a closed-door city manager evaluation session on Monday night the Bozeman City Commission held a news conference yesterday and announced that Bozeman City Manager Chris Kukulski would be leaving that post by a unanimous vote of the five commissioners.

Kukulski was the former city manager of Kalispell until being hired in 2004 beating out three other candidates. And according to public records he was the highest paid city manager in the state.

According to the Bozeman city web site the city grew 40 percent during Kululski’s tenure and the Bozeman economy ranked among the top ten of 536 micro-politan economies in the United States in 9 of the past 10 years.

Kukulski And KMMS

Over the years Bozeman City Manager Chris Kukulski was a regular guest on AM 1450 KMMS. He kept listeners up to speed on what was happening with the city and lobbied for Bozeman citizens in Helena during the legislative terms every two years.

Sometimes the listeners liked what Chris had to say and sometimes they didn’t but he was always prepared to take the heat and take phone calls.

Some Final Thoughts

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Chris Kukulski probably ever since he arrived in town. I’ve come to know him better during the past six months having him in weekly and talking about city issues both on and off air.

We have been lucky to have him on the air each week. Many people in high positions want to stay as far away from on-air phone calls as possible.

Those of us at KMMS wish him the best in his future pursuits and thank him for sharing city information with us for so many years.

I hope his successor will be as accommodating to our listening audience.
