Are Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler dueting on the new Aerosmith record? That’s the rumor.

Mjsbigblog reports that an in-the-know fan broke the news that the singers may be working together. Underwood and Tyler, who are connected via their history with ‘American Idol’ — with her being Season 4′s winner and he being a judge since Season 10 — as well as their CMT Crossroads special and performances and their 2011 ACM Awards performance, allegedly recorded a country duet. The song is said to appear on ‘Music From Another Dimension,’ the new album by Tyler’s classic rock band Aerosmith, which is due out on Aug. 28.

Word is that the classic rockers recorded a ballad written by Marti Fredrickson last summer in its native Boston. Fredrickson suggested that the band turn it into a duet, featuring a female country singer. Underwood, who has a great voice for a crossover, supposedly added her signature sound to the song in the past few days.

Sources who’ve heard a taste of the song dubbed it a “surefire smash” with potential to cross over into multiple radio formats. That, combined with the long and loyal fanbases of both Underwood, Tyler and Aerosmith, translates to a recipe for global success.

The fan’s Facebook post on the duet was deleted after band drummer Joey Kramer dropped a somewhat threatening tweet. “Stealing @Aerosmith thunder look up the word PROSECUTION!” he posted. Yikes. Sounds like the band didn’t want someone else getting the scoop and is hopping mad about it.

There has been no confirmation from either camp about this duet, but his social media rant is pretty telling. If the rumors are true, we love that Aerosmith are getting their country on, as opposed to Carrie simply getting her rock on!

The ‘Good Girl’ isn’t the only country gal or former ‘Idol’ contestant to appear on the new Aerosmith album. ‘Idol’ Season 11 runner up Lauren Alaina contributed background vocals, too.
