Carolyn Miller is helping county music fans get in the Christmas spirit with an unusually soulful cover of a holiday classic, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

Accompanied by an acoustic guitarist and clad in a shimmering, short silver dress, the New York native delivers a vocal in the video above that falls squarely in the country genre, but is also informed by jazz and blues-influenced phrasing. It's a strong, sophisticated performance that doesn't need embellishment.

Miller has been preparing for a county career since making her professional stage debut at age eight. She graduated the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, and Miller has built a career over the years in film and television, as well as on stage and doing voiceovers and commercials. After some early forays into YouTube videos produced encouraging results, she decided to shift more of her focus to music — specifically, country music, to which she is drawn by its sincerity.

“It felt very natural from all my years of being an actress,” she says. “You’re taught to be truthful, so it felt very natural for me to express my truth on a stage through country music."

After years of traveling back and forth between NYC and Nashville to learn the ins and outs of Nashville's music scene, Miller released her debut EP, Unbreakable, independently over the summer. Some top songwriters worked on the album's five tracks, including Shane Stevens, who co-wrote Lady Antebellum's "American Honey.” After many years of being someone else in front of a camera or behind a microphone, she is looking forward to showing fans who she really is.

“If you told me this is what I would be doing five years ago, I would never have believed it. I’m just thankful to be on this crazy journey," she says. "I love waking up every day and knowing I’m one step closer to jumpstarting this adventure. It’s just the beginning. I can’t wait to share this side of myself that’s never been shared before.”

Unbreakable is currently available via various retailers and digital music services. Miller also has a schedule of upcoming live shows that currently runs through March.
