According to several news outlets, country music legend Merle Haggard died this morning on his birthday at his home in California. Merle was 79.

Haggard had been battling health issues in recent years, including pneumonia last year. He also recently spent over a week at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Riverside.

Still one of country musics most popular artists, Haggard is know for songs like "Okie From Muskogee," "Yesterday's Wine," and "Workin' Man Blues." He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.
