Are You On Bozeman Time?

After living in Bozeman for the past 25 years, I’ve learned that time is different herethan in other places I’ve lived.

Some things are close and easy to get to, while others are some distance away and take more time to get there.

We often measure distance here in minutes rather than miles.

If you live in Bozeman, there’s not much incentive to go shopping in either Butte or Billings, our two closest bigger cities.

However, if you live in Three Forks then going to Butte is about the same distance as going to Bozeman. Just depends on what you’re after.

Same with folks in Big Timber.

Different Kinds of Time

There are various kinds of Bozeman time. There is valuable time. That’s the time you spend with friends and family. It’s your most valuable time.

There is work time where you earn your daily bread and many people enjoy their work and to some that’s valuable time. To many others it’s a necessary drudgery.

There is wasted time when you accomplish nothing. My personal favorite. And there is time invested in making your life better in some way – reading, learning or exercising would be examples of invested time.

Only 24 Hours

Whoever came up with the 24-hour day must have had way too much time on their hands, because it’s not nearly enough time to get all the things done that I need to get done.

Which brings us to time management in Bozeman.

Thankfully we don’t have the kind of traffic to define a rush hour by big city standards. You can’t use the excuse that you were stuck in traffic in Bozeman.

We don’t have a rush hour we have a rush 10 minutes. The worst thing that will delay your commute to work is usually hitting all red lights.

Some Final Thoughts

Time is our most valuable commodity. It comes and then it’s gone. See a bad movie and it’s 90 minutes of your life that you’ll never get back.

Each day we’re awarded 86,400 minutes of life. Sounds like a lot, but I can assure you it goes pretty fast.

There are unlimited ways of spending that time. How will you spend your 86,400 seconds today?
