20 Common People Foods Your Montana Fur Baby Can Eat And Enjoy

Lots of us pet owners treat our fur babies better than we treat our family and friends. It’s a fact, and I am definitely guilty of it.

For our dog Dingo’s first 10 months with us, we meal-prepped for him. He had tummy issues and I was sick of trying 10 different dog foods trying to find one that would not make his little belly ache. So I did my research and Dingo started eating better than we did.

Throughout the whole process, I had to check every single food that I would mix in his food to make sure that he wasn’t going to get sick. The good news, I was able to learn a lot about dos and don’ts for dogs.

Some of these may be pretty obvious, but some I was really surprised about.

Here are 20 foods your Montana dog can enjoy WITH you.

Corn is one of the most common ingredients in most dog foods. Don't forget to remove it from the cob, that may cause an intestinal blockage.

Popcorn Unsalted, unbuttered, air-popped popcorn is OK for your dog in moderation.

Eggs As long as they are fully cooked, eggs are a wonderful source of protein and can help an upset stomach.

Coconut  This fun fruit contains lauric acid, which can help combat bacteria and viruses. It can also help with bad breath and clear up skin conditions like hot spots, flea allergies, and itchy skin.

Cashews They’ve got calcium, magnesium, antioxidants, and proteins but only a few at a time are healthy.

Cheese As long as your dog isn’t lactose intolerant, which is rare, but still possible in canines, cheese can be a great treat.

Bread Small amounts of plain bread (no spices and definitely no raisins) won’t hurt your dog, but it also won’t provide any health benefits either.

Peanuts, unlike almonds and a few other nuts, peanuts are safe for dogs to eat. They’re packed with good fats and proteins that can benefit your dog.

Pork is a highly digestible protein, packed with amino acids, and contains more calories per pound than other meat.

Peanut Butter can be an excellent source of protein for dogs. It contains heart-healthy fats, vitamins B and E, and niacin.

Honey is packed with countless nutrients such as vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper, and antioxidants, honey in moderation is a nice little topping.

Ham is high in sodium and fat, so while sharing a small piece is all right, it shouldn’t be a continuous habit.

Fish contains good fats and amino acids, giving your dog a nice health boost. Salmon and sardines are especially beneficial salmon because it’s loaded with vitamins and protein.

Milk Some dogs are lactose-intolerant and don’t digest milk well. While it is OK for dogs to have small amounts of milk, owners should not allow their pups to overindulge.

Tuna, cooked, fresh tuna is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which promotes heart and eye health. Just remember, small amounts are ideal.

Yogurt  If your dog isn't lactose intolerant, the active bacteria in yogurt can help strengthen the digestive system with probiotics.

Shrimp are high in antioxidants, vitamin B-12, and phosphorus, but also low in fat, calories, and carbohydrates. Keep in mind they need to be fully cooked and the shell, including the tail, needs to be removed.

Turkey is fine for dogs, but be sure to remove excess fat and skin from the meat. If you season your turkey, just keep that for yourself. Dogs shouldn't have the extra salt or seasoning.

Quinoa The strong nutritional profile of quinoa makes it a healthy alternative to corn, wheat, and soy.

Wheat/Grains Grains like wheat and corn are great sources of protein, essential fatty acids, and fiber. If your dog has certain allergies, however, it might be best to avoid them.

The list could go on and on, but these are recommended by the AKC (American Kennel Club), a trusted organization for years and years. Of course, you should try everything in small amounts to make sure your pup doesn’t have an allergy.

I have also found some cool treats for my Dingo in the freezer section. His latest favorite is peanut butter-flavored freeze pops. They also have beef flavor, but I wasn’t sure if they would smell like cold meat, which to be honest, didn’t sound very appetizing.
